I've just uploaded the firmware files for Release 2 of Lancaster Mesh. With this version you can claim ownership of your node via a machine connected to the LAN interface of the WRT54G. Just go to the router's IP address (ie. http://192.168.1.1/) and fill in the form. Please make sure you have already registered on Lancaster Mesh and use the same username in the node_claim form. Also, if possible, put the longitude and latitude of the node into the form. Hopefully I'll be able to plot the nodes onto a map at some point in the future.
There is minimal security on the mesh at the moment, consisting of simple WEP encryption. If you are doing anything over the mesh, please bear this in mind. It may be worth reading up on General Wireless Security. I will revisit the security at a later date.
Behind the scenes, a lot of cleaning up and tweaking has taken place. The bulk of the code is now in its own package with just some minor alterations needed to some of the default OpenWRT packages. If you want to compile everything from source or create your own mesh system (please don't if you are around Lancaster, join us! If you aren't from Lancaster, feel free!) all the diffs and source code is available in the downloads section, as well as a howto for building your own firmware.
With Release 3 I will start adding more eye candy such as maps of nodes. Watch this space! Any questions, contact me at:
